November 2019 Speaker

Dr. Wilcox will talk about the unique social, psychological, and financial stressors faced by economically marginalized college students as well as how faculty can provide culturally sensitive support. Dr. Wilcox's research includes examining causes and effects of the student loan debt problem for low socioeconomic status students, first-generation college students, and students of color. She also investigates stressors faced by underrepresented students such as food insecurity and barriers to mentorship. As a first-generation college graduate herself, she has faced some of these same stressors as a student from a low socioeconomic status background. She will talk about what we know from the data, and what was most influential for her in her journey through higher education.

Session Details: Wednesday, November 6th | 2:30-3:30PM | CLB 106B (Stillwater) | Room 343 (Tulsa – live streamed)

Live Streaming available upon request to other OSU campuses.
